Sir,
A suggestion has been made to me, in which I entirely concur, to the effect that many useful purposes might be answered by supplying the Colonial Department with Photographs of the Principal Buildings and most interesting Localities in the various Colonies.
These Photographs could be so arranged in a volume, duplicate of which should be retained in the Colony, as to admit of easy mutual reference thereto by the Secretary of State and Governors in cases where it became necessary to refer to Streets, Buildings, Public Works, in various stages of their progress. They would also, besides being a valuable addition to the Library of this Department, be particularly interesting to persons connected with or proceeding to the Colonies, who are interested in obtaining information as to their character.
If, therefore, the means should exist in the Colony under your Government, it would, I think, be useful if you would have a series of such Photographic Views as I have referred to executed and forwarded to the Colonial Office. They should be carefully numbered and a catalogue of the collection should be made.
